Indonesias parliament has
ratified a United Nations ( UN ) convention on the protection of migrant
workers in a move that will offer greater rights to millions of Indonesians
working abroad. Indonesian had in 2004 signed but not ratified the UNs 1990
International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers
and Members of Their Families. The ratification obliges countries to ensure
workers basic human rights, as well as the right to be informed of conditions
before taking up employment, and the right to form trade unions.
